Another popular Christmas carol, published in the middle of the 19th century, is "See amid the winter snow". It was called "The Hymn for Christmas". Why were the people in the Victorian era so obsessed with a nativity in a cold winter, and snow? Bethlehem is not known for snow! Perhaps the snow is symbolic. Snow represents purity among the sins of the world.
Here's the first verse and chorus.
