It's October and National Hedgerow Week - and we walked uphill to the fields. The day was very peaceful. There was no traffic noise in the fields. We stood and listened. Many little dicky birds were flying around in the air, from one hedge to another, chirping. But what was that sound? There is a deer farm nearby (for venison). I heard a stag bellowing. The fields are ploughed and harrowed, but there is a 20ft border left for nature conservation. There are still flowers growing - corn marigolds, campion, heartsease. And another bird noise - a cock pheasant in this paddock.
